Prof.Stuart Green revolved around the theme of this lecture, “The Tour of Construction Management Research”, from four stages and his understanding of time, research principles, and current research topics. The four stages constituted by the stage of naive initiation (1990-1996), the opposite stage (1996-2002), the stage emphasizing on empirical research (2002-2011), and the stage of understanding structural optimization (2011-present). When talking about change and continuity, Prof.Stuart Green proposed three questions to think about before the study: what facts you want to come up with, what data you need to support the above facts, and how to obtain data. Prof.Stuart Green compared the situation in China when he talked about the fact that the construction industry in the UK has driven contractors to lean construction because of unfunded government owners, and emphasized theories that apply to each country are theories adopted, because there are differences in the political background, economy, and companies of each country.
In summary, Prof.Stuart Green puts forward five points: knowledge and personal experience are inseparable; empirical accumulation and others' questions promote the reflection on their own research; the importance of facts and logic; important changes from definition to understanding; Combination of qualitative and quantitative analysis methods. He also emphasized the importance of clear positioning and continuous thinking.
In the final Q & A session, questions were asked around research thinking, research methods, etc. The teachers and students of the School of Construction Management and Real Estate conducted in-depth exchanges with Prof.Stuart Green on related issues and the atmosphere was lively.
